Collar system

For added fire protection with maritime and offshore applications, insulation is often attached to one or both sides of a bulkhead as well as around the cable transit. The insulation materials most commonly used are mineral wool, ceramic wool or Chartec™.

However, when cable transit insulation is required to withstand extreme conditions such as raging fires, and harsh weather as encountered in external environments onboard ships and oil platforms for example, mineral or ceramic wool are generally inadequate as they disintegrate too quickly.

Innovation for tough conditions

A solution to this problem could be a recent innovation by MCT Brattberg involving insulation for tough conditions comprising a specially designed insulation collar that has been awarded A 60 certification.

Essentially the solid insulation collar is a modular system comprising corner and extension units that fit around the relevant transit. The units themselves consist of a dense fire-resistant composite material that is covered with stainless steel shielding. The complete collar is held in place by metal fixtures.
