Attention to detail

The safety of a system depends on the highest standard of design and fabrication along the total production chain. Even right at the beginning when the frame material is cut to the required lengths safety can be built in.

Cutting steel or aluminium

We use a hard-tipped circular metal saw as this produces a smooth even cut at the ends of each bar at a 90° angle to the sides. This allows a flush joint to be achieved when forming the rectangular frame ready for welding.

If cutting is performed with a chopping action, then a slightly raised edge or lip is formed of the trailing edge of the cut that prevents a flush joint being made without a further grinding step.

Welding frames

Our expert welding, often with robots, is critical to producing transit frames with the highest safety standard; not only the welding technique but also the weld joint design. It is known that poor frame welding can lead to cracking of installed frames, which can continue into the metal bulkhead to weaken its integrity significantly. Moreover, it is essential that all inner edges of a frame are exactly 90° and have a fully penetrated weld. Failure to achieve this will not allow the proper installation of the square blocks and may lead to potential leak paths through the frame.

Frame surface finish

Grinding of external surfaces is usually carried out to maintain tight dimensions to ensure that construction workers need only cut holes of uniform size in divisions for the most common type of transit frames, and that a close fit is achieved before welding commences. We use robotic grinding of welded frames to best maintain consistent external dimensions.

Insert block design

The physical stability and safety that our insert blocks give to transits is derived primarily from two main features. The composition of the insert blocks ensures that they are tough and robust. Because of their simple, modular construction and injection moulded shapes, the blocks totally seal the space between cables/pipes. The other benefit is the very precise fit that insert blocks of different sizes achieve around cables/pipes. Together, these features make sure that not even gas can pass through a packed transit when it is installed correctly.
